Dia de los Muertos: Live Jazz/Blues feat. Bigg Daddy
November 09, 2019
5-7pm
Join The Artists Loft for an evening of jazz and blues by local Bay Area soulful guitarist, Bigg Daddy. Originally hailing from Louisiana, the birthplace of jazz, zydeco, Cajun and swamp pop, Bigg Daddy has made his home in West Oakland and has been part of the diverse Bay Area music scene. His repertoire includes jazz, blues, and gospel and his band as tight as 10-year-old Levi jeans. He stretches himself over the blues, gospel, and rhythm and blues with roots that run as deep as the Mississippi River.

Join us at The Artists Loft for an evening of poetry, spoken word, and song as local poets, writers and singers present original work. Their unique expressions consider transition; love; personal loss; cultural and religious rituals and traditions; global social issues; celebration of life; the human condition; and contemporary iconography and archetypes, like the very familiar calaveras (skulls), calacas (skeletons) and la Catrina (Lady of the Dead).
Also performing is our special guest, Pope, a renowned Conga drummer. He is a Bay Area musician who has been on the Oakland music circuit performing his unique and powerful sound with various bands and performing artists. His soulful, rhythmic African beat fuses with jazz and blues, and every beat of his Congas feel like the beating of your heart. Make no mistake, you'll be on your feet moving to his rhythm and vibe.
